I just want to start this off by saying one of my favorite things to do when I am over at my mom’s house is going through the bucket full of printed photos of my childhood. Even if that means everyone is making fun of my Dora the Explorer haircut and telling VERY personal stories of me as a baby….yeah. And I know I am not the only one who has experienced this…
So! Why should photos matter to you today? As we have moved toward the digital age of photos it’s not quite the same as sitting in a circle passing around all the 4 x 6 photos. BUT (and this is a big but), that doesn’t mean they aren’t important anymore and here’s why.
Life moves so quickly, and photography is there to capture these moments and freezes it in time. Trust me, you’ll want to remember your proposal and how shocked you were when you turned around with your love down on one knee. You’ll want to remember when you two got dressed up and ran through the desert, with the wind blowing your hair. You’ll want to remember that first kiss as husband and wife and all the important people in your life that made your wedding day special. Just…trust me.
And you might also thing, “what happens with these photos after we are all gone?” This is something I have definitely thought about. I hope that my photos are passed on for generations (and you should too!). Just think about your great great great grand babies looking at your wedding photos and everyone sitting around telling stories about your life like how much you loved Mexican food, or how you were a crazy plant lady (I can relate!). Your legacy lives on through photos and that has got to be one of the coolest things!
And if those two reasons haven’t sold you, then here is one more. Photographs tell our personal story, and everyone’s story is uniquely different. Your photographs will capture your favorite people, your favorite things to do, your favorite places to be.
